Main Card Fights

Justin Lawrence(4-0) vs Max Holloway(5–1)

A fight with the potential to win Fight of the Night honors  between two strikers still young in their MMA careers. Lawrence, a TUF: Live veteran, possesses more experience and accolades winning boxing and kickboxing awards post his MMA career. Holloway is also a confident striker with being compared to Lightweight Anthony Pettis  due to his ability to incorporate a wide array of flying and spinning kicks, knees and elbows into his striking game. I feel that Lawrence has a stronger striking game and during his time in TUF he has worked intensely on his wrestling and grappling with team coach Dominic Cruz. I have Justin Lawrence winning this bout by either KO or by a decision in a stand up war.

My Winner: Justin Lawrence, KO – Round 3.

Yushin Okami(26–7) vs Buddy Roberts(12–2)

A match up put together due to both fighters losing their original opponents with Okami losing Luiz Cane & Rousimar Palhares and Buddy Roberts losing Chris Camozzi, all due to injury. Roberts will look to make a huge leap in the rankings and the Middleweight division with a win over high ranked contender Yushin Okami. Okami will look to get out of his current slump and 2 fight losing streak  with a loss to Roberts potentially giving him his walking papers from the UFC. Both fighters are big Middleweights and will look to wear each other down and the fighter with the better stamina will look to win the fight in the later rounds. I feel that Okami has a huge experience, striking and even grappling advantage over Roberts and by using his amazing jab it will cause Roberts huge problems to get anything offensive going against him.

My Winner: Yushin Okami, Decision – Round 3.

Jake Shields(27–6–1) vs Ed Herman(20–7)

A great match up between two BJJ black belts and MMA veterans with them having over 25 professional career fights each. Jake Shields is making a return to Middleweight after struggling to cut the weight to make Welterweight and a failed UFC title run in the Welterweight division. Herman is currently on a 3 fight win streak after coming back from a long lay off due to injury and has finished all of his opponents since then and is taking a leap in competition against an established and highly regarded fighter in Jake Shields. Although both fighters have Brazilian Jui Jitsu black belts there is still a grappling advantage to Jake Shields who on top of his amazing BJJ skills is also an accomplished wrestler which Herman has shown a weakness to in the past. In this fight I have Shields stealing rounds and using effective wrestling a new found energy in Middleweight to constantly threaten with takedowns and amazing top control to earn a decision victory over Herman.

My Winner: Jake Shields, Decision – Round 3.

Donald Cerrone(18–4 (1)) vs Melvin Guillard(30–10–2 (1))

Another potential bout that could win Fight of the Night honors  between two top flight Lightweight strikers. This fight is sure to be very explosive with Guillard will look to use his speed and explosive boxing skills to test the iron chin of Donald Cerrone. Cerrone will look to use his range and wide range of kicks to test Guillard’s suspect chin. Although the striking aspect of this fight is very similar and is very close skill wise Cerrone has a huge advantage on the mat with his BJJ skills which Guillard has shown a huge disadvantage with submission losses to Jim Miller and Joe Lauzon. With this being such a closely contested affair on the feet I have to go with Cerrone taking this fight due to the huge difference ability if this fight hits the mat.

My Winner: Donald Cerrone, Submission – Round 1.

Benson Henderson(16–2) vs Frankie Edgar(14-2-1)

The long-awaited rematch between current UFC Lightweight champion Benson Henderson and former UFC Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. This rematch comes straight after their first fight back in Japan at UFC 144 and look to solidify the champion after a very close and competitive first bout between the two Lightweights. Henderson will look to replicate the first fight and use his size advantage and cardio to constantly wear down the smaller fighter and win rounds by out-pointing Edgar on the feet, using his trademark kicks to punish from afar. Edgar will look to close the distance and drag Henderson into deep waters and test his heart by using his sharp boxing, speed and wrestling to constantly mix up his attack and keep Henderson guessing and under constant pressure. This fight is sure to be anything other than boring and I can see this once again going to the judges with Henderson prevailing using his size advantage effectively to wear down the smaller fighter Edgar.  If Edgar does lose there is no doubt he will drop down to Featherweight and challenge Aldo for his title.

My Winner: Benson Henderson, Decision – Round 5.

Jared Hamman vs Michael Kuiper – TKO, R3

Ken Stone vs Erik Perez – DEC, R3

One comment on “UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II Predictions

  1. Nive job with your FOX 4 picks. We have the same picks except I got Holloway by UD. And I’m taking Michael Kuiper as this fight could go either way. Also Burmudez by UD and Cerrone R2 sub. Overall very similar picks though.
