Main Card Fights

Cub Swanson(17–5) vs Charles Oliveira(16–2 (1))

A huge fight in the Featherweight division with both competitors being so close to getting a shot at the belt, a victory for either fighter will solidify their claim. Swanson has shown added power to his striking game with his last two fights being technical stoppages over ZUFFA veteran George Roop and British striker & TUF 9 winner Ross Pearson. Oliveira is also on an incredible run after dropping down to 145 with two submission victories over Eric Wisely and TUF 12 winner Johnathan Brookins. Swanson will look to use a sprawl and brawl tactic against the submission ace and look to avoid the ground game at all costs. While Oliveira will look to get this fight to the ground and lock up a submission. I feel that Oliveira has solid striking and enough of a reach advantage to be able to survive on the feet but also be able to get this fight to the ground and win via submission in the third round.

My Winner: Charles Oliveira, Submission – Round 3.

Matt Hamill(10–4) vs Roger Hollett(13-3)

A Light-Heavyweight bout between returning UFC veteran Matt Hamill and new-comer Roger Hollett. This is Hamill’s first fight back since his retirement which was announced over a year ago.  Hollett has also been inactive for over 10 months due to contract disputes with Bellator. Hamill will look to go back to his roots against Hollett by use his wrestling to grind out a decision victory in his return fight back to the UFC. Hollett will look to use his kickboxing to out strike the UFC vet and follow-up with a submission finish while avoiding Hamill’s wrestling advantage throughout the bout. I have Hamill winning this fight by using his superior wrestling and experience advantage fighting many big names within the UFC over the years.

My Winner: Matt Hamill, Decision – Round 3.

Michael Bisping(22–4) vs Brian Stann(12–4)

A huge Middleweight fight between British striker Michael Bisping and American slugger Brian Stann which will catapult them into a possible #1 contender shot. Bisping is coming into this fight after a very close and controversial decision loss to world ranked #2 Middleweight Chael Sonnen back at UFC on FOX 2. Stann is coming off of a dominating knockout victory over Alessio Sakara at UFC on Fuel TV: Gustafsson vs. Silva. Bisping will look to exploit Stann’s known grappling disadvantage after dominating losses to the likes of Chael Sonnen and Phil Davis who are top flight wrestlers. Bisping over the years has shown solid wrestling in fights against great MMA wrestlers like Chael Sonnen, Rashad Evans & Matt Hamill and has a very underrated ground game and could submit Stann if he goes for it.  Bisping will also look to counter strike the power puncher and keep a high tempo throughout the fight to tire his opponent while trying to avoid or block all strikes. Stann will look to corner Bisping up against the cage and unload heavy punches and look to test the British fighter’s chin. I have Bisping taking this fight by decision by using effective mix of high pace counter striking and takedowns to wear down the American.

My Winner: Michael Bisping, Decision – Round 3.

Joseph Benavidez(16–2) vs Demetrious Johnson(15-2-1)

A historic fight to crown the first ever UFC Flyweight champion between former Bantamweight title contenders Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson. Both fighters have long waited for a major promotions to introduce the 125 pound Flyweight division after fighting naturally bigger opponents at a top flight level for the majority of their careers. This fight will be a very close affair with both having strong wrestling backgrounds and ever improving stand up. Although I believe that Benavidez has an advantage in the striking and submission department. Johnson will look to use his trademark speed to constantly press Benavidez and use effective footwork to get in and out of his opponents power. Benavidez should use his powerful strikes to catch Johnson as he is coming in and look to get stronger as the fight goes on with Johnson showing cardio troubles in previous fights, especially with this being a 25 minute fight. I have Benavidez winning this fight by a late TKO finish in the 4th round once Johnson’s speed begins to decrease and counters Johnson while he is coming in.

My Winner: Joseph Benavidez, TKO – Round 4.

Jon Jones(16–1) vs Vitor Belfort(21–9)

A championship fight between UFC Light-Heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and former UFC Light-Heavyweight champion Vitor ‘The Phenom’ Belfort. It is no secret what the strategy of ‘The Phenom’ will be! Belfort will look to use his trademark hand speed and power to bull rush Jones early in the fight; stopping the champion Jones gaining any confidence during the bout. Jones will look to use his every challenging reach to keep the powerful Belfort at bay while attacking from distance with unorthodox strikes. Although I would like nothing more than Belfort to KO Jones I just can’t see the highly ranked Middleweight being able to close the distance and actually being able to get a hold of the champion Jones. I feel Jones’ reach is just to much of a task for Belfort and will finish him in the second round via TKO.

My Winner: Jon Jones, TKO – Round 2.
