UFC on FX: Browne vs. Bigfoot Predictions

Here is another addition of MMA predictions featuring UFC on FX: Browne vs. Bigfoot,  which is being held on the 5th October 2012 at  the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. The headlining bout is between Heavyweight contenders Travis Browne and Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva.

Main Card Fights

John Dodson(13-5) vs Jussier da Silva(14-1)

A huge fight between two highly ranked Flyweights with the winning more than likely getting a shot at the newly crowned Flyweight champion Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson. Dodson will look to emulate Ian McCall’s performance against da Silva and use effective  striking & submission defense to dismantle the long ranked top 5 ranked Flyweight. da Silva will look to grab a hold of Dodson and drag this fight to the ground and look to out work the TUF 14 winner on the ground. I have da Silva winning this fight via decision by outworking Dodson on the ground.

My Winner: Jussier da Silva, Decision – Round 3.

Josh Neer(33–11–1) vs Justin Edwards(7–2)

A very confusing fight between MMA veteran Josh Neer and TUF 13 vet Justin Edwards which has also somehow got a main event slot, mostly due to Neer. Josh Neer is a seasoned veteran fighting many big names throughout his career and is currently 4-1 in his last 5 fights. While Edwards is quite young in his MMA career, only participating in 9 pro fights, has been fighting the bottom of the Welterweight division and is 1-2 in the UFC. Although Edwards has a huge heart and is an entertaining fighter to watch just won’t be able to handle Neer’s experience and well-rounded skills.

My Winner: Josh Neer, Submission – Round 2.

Jake Ellenberger(27–6) vs Jay Hieron(23-5)

A fight moved from the cancelled 151 card to this card and will act as a rematch for the fighters who previously met back in IFL. Ellenberger is a highly ranked Welterweight who has fought and beaten world-class competetion during his 3 year career in the UFC. Hieron is making is return to the UFC after being cut back in 2005 and looks to use his IFL experience to pull off a huge upset and rocket into the top 10 rankings. Ellenberger will look to use his explosive speed and power to close the distance and test Hieron’s chin with huge hooks and knees from in tight or the clinch. Hieron will look to weather the early storm and keep a slow pace to the fight slowly picking the UFC vet apart as he is known to fade through a fight after the 2nd round. I think Ellenberger’s speed and power will be too much for Heiron and will rack up a quick win late in the first round after a traditional Ellenberger rush attack.

My Winner: Jake Ellenberger, KO – Round 1.

Travis Browne(13–0–1) vs Antonio Silva(16–4)

A big fight in the Heavyweight division to test a young prospect against a Heavyweight veteran who has fought many of the top Heavyweights in the world. Both fighters are huge Heavyweights and will look to over power the other in this match up. Browne will look to use his strength to avoid the ground game and Silva’s biggest threat, which is his BJJ skills. Browne while trying to avoid being smothered by ‘Big Foot’ will look to exploit his opponents kickboxing skills which were shown clearly by the smaller fighter Daniel Cormier back in the Strikeforce Heavyweight tournament. Silva will look to use his strength to drag this fight to the mat and use effective ground and pound while threatening with submissions too to earn a TKO stoppage similar to his fight with Fedor. I feel Browne’s speed will be the key difference in this fight as Browne will use his impressive striking and speed to really damage the slower ‘Big Foot’ for a TKO victory.

My Winner: Travis Browne, TKO – Round 1.

  1. For the most part, I completely agree with your predictions. The only one I think/hope you got wrong is Yves Edwards vs. Jeremy Stephens—I think Edwards is going to come out on top in that fight. Overall this promises to be an exciting card (especially for a free one). It’s a good card to have for my first UFC party in my new house. I upgraded almost everything when I moved too: new HD TVs, a new couch, and my employer, DISH, hooked me up with the Hopper and the HD Free for Life promotion. It’s the first time I’ve had high definition and while I’ve seen HD sets in stores, its better to be able to watch it on a big plasma in my living room!

    • I’m seriously jealous, I live in the UK so you completely lost me with the DISH and Hooper stuff. The only time I ever watch it live is when an event is in Europe which is like twice a year! I have Stephens winning because of his one punch knockout power and his recent competition experience against the likes of Cerrone and Pettis. Enjoy the fights tonight!
