Main Card Fights

***************************************************************************

Tiequan Zhang(15–3) vs Jon Tuck(6–0)

A Lightweight fight between Zhang who is fighting to keep his UFC career alive by moving up in weight while Tuck is making his UFC debut after unsuccessfully making it into the TUF:Live house in the first round against runner-up Al Iaquinta. Both fighters have very solid submission games with an advantage going to Tuck who has won a gold and silver at the World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Cup for his country. I can see Tuck using his size advantage to wear down Zhang leading to a late submission victory in his UFC debut.

My Winner: Jon Tuck, Submission – Round 3.

Alex Caceres(7–5) vs Motonobu Tezuka(19–4)

A matchup between two young prospects in the Bantamweight  that are looking to splash in a division who are currently short on contenders. Both fighters have very dynamic & fluid striking and submission game but there is a distinct experience and strength advantage for Caceres who has fought many big names in the Bantamweight division and has fought in 3 different division during his UFC career. Although Tezuka looks like a great prospect I think that the UFC experience and overall game will help Caceres catch the inexperienced Korean fighter.

My Winner: Alex Caceres, Submission – Round 2.

Takanori Gomi(33–8 (1)) vs Mac Danzig(21–9–1)

An intriguing match up in the Lightweight division between two MMA veterans looking to climb the ranks of a stacked division. This is sure to be a very close fight with both fighters really needing a win to stay relevant in the most talented division in the UFC. Gomi will look to use his trademark punching power and takedown defense to keep this fight standing and look for the knockout. Danzig will look to use his striking to close the distance and tie up with the Pride superstar. From the clinch he will look to damage Gomi up against the cage or get a takedown to nullify Gomi’s power advantage. I have Danzig using effective clinch and cage control to outwork and out muscle Gomi for a decision victory.

My Winner: Mac Danzig, Decision – Round 3.

Dong Hyun Kim(15–2–1 (1)) vs Paulo Thiago(14–4)

A Welterweight bout between two UFC veterans looking to bounce back from recent losses in their last couple of fights. Kim will look to use his Judo to smother Thiago for three rounds by using his amazing top control from his Judo background. Thiago will look to get Kim on his back and assault with some ground and pound and submission attempts. To be honest I see this being a boring fight with Kim holding down the Brazilian Thiago for three rounds and getting the decision victory in the process.

My Winner: Dong Hyun Kim, Decision – Round 3.

Thiago Silva(14–3 (1)) vs Stanislav Nedkov(12–0)

A sure ‘Fight of the Night’ candidate between aggressive strikers Thiago Silva and Stanislav Nedkov who are looking to get into the top 10 rankings. This is sure to be a great stand up fight with Thiago’s intimidating aggressive Chute Box style of fighting against Nedkov’s brawling style. Thiago will look to use his 4 inch reach advantage in this fight and strike from range and not let Nedkov back him up against the cage or get inside. While Nedkov will look to pin Silva up against the cage or work to get inside and use his brawling haymaker style and solid chin to turn this into a street fight. Silva will have to keep this fight technical and if he gets hurt could look to show off his great ground game. I have Silva using his experience and range to pick apart Nedkov as he is wildly rushing in and earn a TKO stoppage early in the second round.

My Winner: Thiago Silva, TKO – Round 2.

Rich Franklin(29–6 (1)) vs Cung Le(8–2)

Another great match -up in the Middleweight division between future Hall of Famer and former UFC Middleweight champion Rich Franklin & former Strikeforce Middleweight champion Cung Le. This fight is sure to start of quick with Le using his trademark kicks to keep the bigger fighter from rushing in and countering his range. I see Franklin looking to set a fast tempo early in the fight and using his grappling advantage and huge reach advantage to wear down his smaller opponent. After an intense couple of rounds going back and forth, I feel Le will start to fade and Franklin who is known to have great cardio and ability to go 5 rounds will start to pressure Le earning a TKO finish late in the third round.

My Winner: Rich Franklin, TKO – Round 3.

Preliminary Fights (predicted winners in bold & red)

Yasuhiro Urushitani vs John Lineker – KO, Round 2.

Riki Fukuda vs Tom DeBlass – Decision, Round 3.

Takeya Mizugaki vs Jeff Hougland – Decision, Round 3.

David Mitchell vs Hyun Gyu Lim – Fight Cancelled(Hyun Gyu Lim was not medically cleared by doctors)
