UFC 154:St-Pierre vs Condit Predictions

Here is another addition of MMA predictions featuring UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit,  which is being held on the 17th November 2012 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The headlining fight is a Welterweight unification bout between current UFC Welterweight champion George ‘ Rush’ St-Pierre and  current UFC Interim Welterweight champion and former WEC Welterweight champion ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Carlos Condit.

Main Card Fights

Mark Hominick(20–11) vs Pablo Garza(11–3)

A must win for both fighters who are both currently on losing streaks which with one more loss could mean a pink slip from the UFC. Canadian and fan favourite Mark Hominick has not won since his title fight loss to Jose Aldo and is looking to bounce back and jump back into contendership. After an amazing start in the UFC with highlight finish wins over Fredson Paixão and Yves Jabouin, has dropped his last two fights and need a win against his high-profile opponent to avoid the pink slip from the UFC. Both fighters are very well-rounded with an overall edge going to Hominick. This is a fight really working in Hominick’s favor and should be able to really put pressure on Garza for a late TKO finish.

My Winner: Mark Hominick , TKO – Round 3.

Constantinos Philippou(11–2(1)) vs Nick Ring(13–1) – Fight Cancelled

A Middleweight battle between two fighters looking to make some noise in a division suddenly bursting with contenders. Both fighters have good all round skills with Philippou being the bigger and more powerful striker with a boxing background, while Ring arguably has a stronger ground game. This fight will all come down to who can establish their game plan first. I feel Philippou will be able to keep Ring backpedaling away from his powerful punches the whole fight en-route to a decision victory over the Canadian.

My Winner: Constantinos Philippou , Decision – Round 3.

Francis Carmont(19-7) vs Tom Lawlor(8–4 (1))

Another Middleweight matchup between rising star Francis Carmont and UFC & TUF vet Tom Lawlor. Carmont is currently on a 7 fight win streak including 3 wins within the UFC. Lawlor is currently 2-3 in his last five fights and hoping to make a statement over highly regarded Carmont. With amateur wrestling experience Lawlor technically should be able to stuff Carmonts powerful takedowns. Although I believe that Carmont will rough up Lawlor against the cage using his size advantage and go for takedowns from the clinch/cage and work his ground and pound to open up a submission opportunity.

My Winner: Francis Carmont, Submission – Round 2.

Martin Kampmann(20–5) vs Johny Hendricks(13-1)

A number one Welterweight contender fight between Danish superstar Martin Kampmann and heavy-handed wrestler Johny Hendricks. This is sure to be a very interesting fight in a classic striker vs grappler match-up although at this level it really is much more than that. Kampmann holds crisp technical striking, great takedown defense and slick submissions, while Hendricks has power in both hands and  strong wrestling. I feel Kampmann has all the experience to win this match up fighter in my eyes a more dangerous version of Hendricks in Ellenburger. The only real technical striker on Kampmann’s level that Hendrick’s has fought has to be Amir Sadollah who is not really on Kampmann’s level. Although holding wins over elite fighters like Koscheck and Fitch if Kampmann can keep this standing he should be able to pick Hendricks apart en-route to a decision victory, also more than likely getting rock at least once by Hendrick’s power in typical Kampmann fashion.

My Winner: Martin Kampmann, Decision – Round 3.

Georges St-Pierre(22–2)(c) vs Carlos Condit(28-5)(ic)

The long-awaited return of the greatest Welterweight of all time and current UFC champion George St-Pierre against Interim-Welterweight champion Carlos Condit. There are so many factors in this fight that really need to be accounted before predicting this fight. This will be the first fight back for GSP in over a year after recovering from knee surgery. Could ring rust and GSP’s knee affect his performance against Condit? Condit has got many things going for him such as his height and reach advantage over GSP so GSP will have to be explosive and extensively use his knee to close the gap for striking or the trademark takedown. Even Condit is put on his back he is still dangerous with sweeps and submission attempts. Although if GSP is 100% and has got his fire back should be able to control this fight over a tough opponent in Condit using his wrestling to secure a decision. Condit will look to use his striking and reach advantage to push the pace and keep GSP moving back nullifying his wrestling and striking in the process. I honestly can see GSP making a statement after his time off with using striking and wrestling to show a more entertaining style although not being able to finish the tough Condit to unify the titles once again.

My Winner: Georges St-Pierre, Decision – Round 5.

Cyrille Diabaté vs Chad Griggs– TKO, Round 3

Sam Stout vs John Makdessi – Decision, Round 3

Mark Bocek vs Rafael dos Anjos – Decision, Round 3

Antonio Carvalho vs Rodrigo Damm – TKO, Round 2

Ivan Menjivar vs Azamat Gashimov – Submission, Round 3
